Communication Keys Your Designer Will Love You For

Effective communication is key to a successful website or design project. Here are some tips for communicating with your website or designer:

Effective communication is key to a successful website or design project. Here are some tips for communicating with your website or designer:

Never Assume They Already Know

As a new business owner it can be easy to get wrapped up in all your to-dos but you want to be sure your designer has all the information they need to begin. You never want to assume your designer knows everything they need to know about your business' products, services, policies, etc. Provide proper documentation from the start including brand guidelines, product information, policy details etc. Additionally, when you add a request regarding a specific offer, product, or service include all necessary details to aid the design process.

Be Clear and Concise

When communicating with your website or designer, be clear and concise about your needs and expectations. Provide specific details and examples to help them understand what you are looking for. For example, when giving feedback on a specific web page refrain from saying things like "Can we just add more blue".

Instead, you want to notate exactly what color, page, and section your referencing by saying "On the home page, can we add more of the light blue accent color to the bottom section banner with the title "coming to stores soon" ".

This gives the designer clear direction on what you are looking to change and causes less confusion in the editing phase.

Use Visual Aids

Use visual aids such as sketches, screenshots, or mood boards to help convey your vision for the project. This can help your website or designer understand your preferences and design style. We recommend all clients take a screen-recording of themselves reviewing the site to point out specific elements they want changed. This can be done via Zoom Recording or on most recent devices.

Provide Timely Feedback

Provide timely feedback throughout the project to ensure that it stays on track and meets your expectations. This includes providing feedback on design concepts, content, and functionality. Usually you'll have an opportunity at every stage to make decisions or provide pertinent information. It's crucial to be attentive to the dialogue and provide ample details regarding product releases, products, or additional features you may need. This will prevent excessive editing in the end.

Be Open to Collaboration

Be open to collaboration and feedback from your website or designer. They may have ideas or suggestions that can help improve the project and achieve your goals.

Communicate Through Proper Channels

Lastly, you want to be sure to contact your designer during business hours through the proper communication channels they set. For example, if you designer has call scheduling or solely communicates through email be sure to address any concerns there. This will allow you to get the best response times and usually prevents lapse in much needed communication.
